Who is Buddy the Gourd?

Buddy was first discovered in a vegetable bin in a local coop grocery store, many years ago. Like way back in the 80's. So imagine how many years ago that was. Buddy's discoverer, let's call her Diane, rescued Buddy for about 25 cents and brought the famous gourd home. Little did she realize how her life was about to change. For Buddy has revealed himself or is it herself to be an internationally known gourd personality and a few of his/her adventures are documented in these pages.
Originally thought to be, like I said, from the 80's, portraits painted by famous artists throughout the ages reveal that Buddy has existed for centuries, perhaps for all time. See example on the right. And the legend of Buddy the Gourd is this: Each year around September or October he is discovered once again, visits Diane bringing a suitcase full of mementos and full of stories from the past year. Inevitably after a few months, this Buddy begins to lose color, sometimes goes soft and moldy, but on other years dries out quite nicely, but in either case loses the ability to talk and do those day to day activities that we all enjoy.
It's at this time when Buddy the Gourd's spirit leaves his gourd shell, and he circumnavigates the globe, travels through time, hangs out with his friends the plastic birds and has other fabulous adventures. Until the Fall season, when he returns to Diane's house being once again bright orange on the top with a green bottom and is able to be perceived by ordinary humans and cats.
